Verify the business and license

Ask for the provider’s legal business name and California contractor license number. Check the license status, classification, bond, workers’ compensation information, and disclosed complaints using the official California Contractors State License Board license lookup. Confirm that the name on the proposal matches the license record.

Request a clear written estimate

A useful estimate identifies the equipment or work proposed, labor, materials, exclusions, permits, disposal, schedule, payment terms, and warranty. For equipment replacement, request model numbers, capacity, efficiency ratings, controls, accessories, and any duct or electrical work.

• Ask what testing or observations support the recommendation
• Compare the same scope when reviewing more than one bid
• Clarify which changes require written approval
• Confirm who obtains permits and schedules inspections
• Keep copies of contracts, change orders, receipts, and warranties

Understand who is responsible

The provider that you hire is responsible for its estimate, contract, employees and subcontractors, licensing, insurance, permits, scheduling, safety, workmanship, code compliance, and warranty. HVAC Visalia does not supervise, endorse, inspect, or guarantee a provider or its work.

Watch for pressure and unsupported promises

Take time to understand a recommendation unless an immediate safety condition makes delay inappropriate. Be cautious of demands for rapid decisions, vague scopes, unusually large upfront payments, blank contract spaces, claims that permits are unnecessary without explanation, or guaranteed savings and health outcomes.
